Short-term Closure on S.R. 56 Postponed

(Ohio County, IN) – A short-term closure of State Road 56 between Hartford Pike and Old State Road 56 in Ohio County for a culvert replacement project has been postponed.

The closure was previously scheduled to begin on Friday, December 19.

State Road 56 is now expected to close in January, weather permitting.

INDOT says additional schedule information will be provided as it becomes available.

The closure will take place just west of Laughery Creek and is expected to take up to three days, if the weather cooperates.

During the closure, motorists should use the official detour route which follows U.S. 50 to State Road 262 back to State Road 56.

This project is part of a contract awarded by INDOT to 5 Star Company in September 2025.

Drivers are reminded to slow down, use extra caution, and avoid distractions when traveling in and near work zones.

All work is weather-dependent and schedules are subject to change.
