Sgt. Gavin Silas “Tot” McClanahan

Sgt. Gavin Silas “Tot” McClanahan, age 28, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2025, in Mason, Tennessee. Born on February 18, 1997, in Madison, Indiana, Gavin brought light and laughter to those around him from the very beginning.

Gavin was a proud graduate of Lawrenceburg High School’s class of 2015. He continued his education at Ball State University, earning his degree in 2019. That same year marked the beginning of his dedicated service to his country when he joined the United States Army. Stationed at Fort Campbell, Gavin rose to the rank of Sergeant E5 during his six years of honorable service from 2019 to 2025.

Known affectionately as “Tot”, Gavin lived life with energy and heart. He had a passion for skiing trips with friends and could often be found on the golf course or cheering for his beloved Cincinnati Bengals. His enthusiasm for sports was matched only by the joy he found in spending time with family–wrestling with loved ones, blasting music that filled every room with rhythm and spirit, and sharing meals that brought everyone together.

Gavin’s presence was a constant source of strength and comfort. He was the first to arrived when someone needed help and remained long after to offer advice and unwavering support. His loyalty ran deep, and those who knew him felt it in every word he spoke and every action he took.

He is lovingly remembered by his mother, Maria Gomez (Will), sister, Regan Sipes, maternal grandmother, Kathy Taylor, paternal grandfather, Mike McClanahan, aunt, Candy Haney, cousins, Thomas Ogden, Makenzie Bruce, Alexis Bryant, and Brooklynn Bryant. Gavin was preceded in death by his father Brien McClanahan.

Gavin’s memory will live on through the countless lives he touched with his kindness, courage, and unwavering devotion. May his legacy bring comfort to all who knew him.
