Only the East Central Lady Trojans made it to a soccer regional championship match Saturday.  See their details in a separate story.  Meanwhile, several sectional champions lost in a regional semifinal during the week.

On Wednesday in a 1A regional semi in Vevay, No. 14 Switzerland County outpossessed and outshot No. 9 Providence, but it was the Pioneers who advanced.

The match was tied 1-1 through overtime after Switzerland County’s Mackenzie Taylor evened the score with under 23 minutes left in regulation.  After no additional scoring took place through OT, the visiting Pioneers outscored the Pacers 3-1 in penalty kicks to win 2-1 (3-1 PKs).

Also on Wednesday in a 2A girls regional semi played in Westfield, South Dearborn lost to second ranked Cathedral 4-0.

On Thursday, the East Central and South Dearborn boys both lost up in the Indianapolis area.

The Trojans lost their 3A semifinal to Cathedral in Westfield 1-0.  The 19-time sectional champions from St. Leon saw the game’s only goal scored against them in the first half by the Irish’s Christopher Kiki.

The Knights lost their 2A semi 5-1 to No. 6 Speedway at Beech Grove.  Dana Lewis provided the only netter for SD with an assist from Ashton Cotton.

And Class 1A Southwestern Hanover was shut out 3-0 by No. 3 Providence in Madison Thursday. The Pioneers also had a 20-7 advantage in shots including 12-2 on goal.
