(Hamilton, OH) – The former fiancé of a woman whose body was found near Cedar Grove more than 10 years ago was sentenced to the maximum three years in prison on Thursday.

John Carter pleaded guilty last month to Involuntary Manslaughter in Butler County Ohio.

He accepted a plea deal shortly before his trial was scheduled to start.

The plea bargain reduced the charges, including two counts of Murder to a misdemeanor Involuntary Manslaughter count.

The charges stemmed from the disappearance and death of Katelyn Markham, who was last seen alive at her Fairfield, Ohio home in August 2011.

Search crews spent nearly two years looking for Markham until her skeletal remains were found in a ditch along Big Cedar Road in April 2013.
