Indianapolis, In. — Republican Indiana state senator Jean Leising was one of several leaders attending a meeting with U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue at the Indiana State Fair.
The session was billed as a “listening session” for the latest farm bill debate.
“It was an honor to be included in the discussion with state and national leaders on issues facing the agricultural industry,” Leising said. “I’m very appreciative that I was able to voice my concerns relevant to rural Indiana to our state and national leaders. It takes collaboration on all sides to keep this industry healthy, and I believe today’s meeting is a great example of moving toward that goal.”
Leising, who chairs the Senate Committee on Agriculture, brought rural development funding for broadband and water infrastructure in Indiana to Perdue’s attention.
Later this month, Leising will attend the Rural Caucus at the State Fair where she will continue to study and address issues facing Indiana’s farming industry.
