Semi driver injured in thrown rock incident speaking out

(Decatur County, IN) – The Fed Ex semi-truck driver who was hit in the head by a thrown rock on I-74 near St. Paul over the weekend is speaking out.

Travis Hampton and his daughter were westbound on the interstate near the 127-mile marker shortly before 3 o’clock Sunday morning when a rock came crashing through his front window, knocking him unconscious.

“Really don’t remember anything but waking up to the EMT,” Hampton said.

He was flown to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis and is recovering from serious facial injuries, including broken bones.

“I think I have to get a total of 27 stitches,” he added.

Hampton’s daughter was unharmed and dialed 9-1-1 for help.

So far, no arrests have been made.
