The Sunman-Dearborn Middle School Trojans hosted the 7th and 8th grade feeder teams for Ryle High School in Northern Kentucky, this evening at Trojan Field. This matchup almost didn’t happen after a few scheduling conflicts, but both schools were eager to keep the game on the calendar.
The 7th grade game kicked off at 6:00, and Ryle wasted no time flexing their muscle. Ryle standout Kyle England was a one man team as the kicker and main running back. England ran 13 times for 300 of Ryle’s 368 offensive yards, all of which came on the ground. England also lit up the scoreboard five times, accounting for all of Ryle’s points. The Trojans finished the game with just 87 total yards, but were not shut out. Quarterback Gabe Patton connected with Troy Teepe for the first touchdown, and Noah Wheat ran for the second. In the end the SDMS Trojans fell in a 36-14 game.
The 8th grade game was up next and the SDMS Trojans were ready to continue their 19 game winning streak. The Trojans kept the game mostly on the ground with 167 of their 183 yards coming from carries, and quarterback Isaiah Wheat only passed 8 times. Alex Maxwell led the team in yards with 115, averaging over 11 per carry, and found the end zone twice. Eric Rosemeyer also ran hard averaging slightly more than 7 yards per touch, and scored on a 29 yard run. Stats alone though don’t tell the whole story of the game. Despite having only 56 total yards, Ryle played a very physical game and their defense kept the Trojans to an untypically low scoring game. Trojans go on to win 18-0, and extend the winning streak to 20 games!
After having two games in one week, the Trojans will get a few days rest before traveling to South Dearborn next week.
