(Batesville, IN) – The Batesville Community School Board is changing its monthly meeting day and time.
Effective in July, state statute will require all school board meetings to be livestreamed and archived.
Superintendent Paul Ketcham says, in addition to transparency, this will allow more community participation.
The school board has traditionally met on the third Monday of the month at 6 p.m.
“There’s really not that much participation the community (at that time), and it’s also hard to get students and staff and principals back on Monday nights,” Ketcham said.
Starting with the May 21 session, school board meetings will take place the third Wednesday of the month at Noon in the Bulldog Center at Batesville High School.
“The thought process is, during lunch, people can jump on livestream. If they want to come over to the school, we’d love to have them,” Ketcham said. “But what that really does is create a robust atmosphere for our board meetings, where we can have any of our K-12 students, any of our teachers, any of our administrators, and many of our community members who are already around town. So the thought process is we will have a more impactful board meeting.”
