Batesville Community School Corp. is one step closer toward providing technology devices for each student by 2014.
Administrators launched the 1:1 initiative in August 2012, beginning with 13-inch MacBook Air laptops provided to students at Batesville High School. In August 2013, Batesville Middle School students received 11-inch MacBook Air laptops.
The Batesville School Board approved the purchase of iPad devices for Batesville Intermediate and Batesville Primary School students during the Monday Jan. 20 meeting.
BIS students will receive the 9-inch Apple iPad 2, and BPS students will receive the 7-inch Apple iPad mini.
“A big goal achieved. We looked at this as a three year process,” Superintendent Dr. Jim Roberts said. “We know our students do well with technology.”
“We consider them digital natives, they are just used to it. We are kind of digital immigrants we can kind of use it, but it is maybe not first nature for us. So we are looking forward to starting that, our teachers are excited our students are excited.”
