Greensburg, IN — The Greensburg/Washington Township Fire Department received an early Christmas gift on Monday; their new tanker fire truck. The new truck replaced the 1986 tanker that was purchased new at the time.
According to Washington Township Trustee Christian Rust, the truck is called a dry side tanker and will hold 2,000 gallons of water. It also has tons of new safety features such as 360-degree camera views for maneuvering. The new truck will serve the City of Greensburg, Washington Township, and will go out to assist with mutual aid calls throughout Decatur County.
The new truck will now seat four people, compared to the old one that only sat two. The new tanker features the new Washington Township badge on the door. The badge features leaves of the Mulberry Tree; the tree in the courthouse tower.
The capacity of this tanker will provide a large amount of water in a short period for the rural areas of the community that do not have hydrants available. According to Chief Nathan Stoermer, the tanker truck is called out for all structure fires that occur in the county. Washington Township, including the city of Greensburg, serves roughly 13,000 citizens.
