Beginning on or after Wednesday, April 1, enforcement of Indiana’s worksite Safe Zones speed control pilot program will begin in the I-74 work zone between mile markers 113 and 134.
Once active, truck-mounted speed timing devices will monitor speeds of passing vehicles.
The owners of cars or trucks traveling 11 mph or more over the posted speed limit will receive a violation notice via mail.
Penalties will be assessed as follows:
- First violation: zero-fine warning.
- Second violation: $75 fine.
- Third and subsequent violations: $150 fine.
Safe Zones is a program authorized by the Indiana General Assembly in 2023 that aims to protect the lives of motorists and road workers by slowing drivers down and reducing crashes in work zones.
Collected fines are deposited into the state’s General Fund.
