Robert Sonntag

Robert (Bob) Sonntag, 85 years old, of Lawrenceburg, IN, passed away on June 9, 2020. Bob was born in Atlantic City, New Jersey on September 17, 1934 after his parents emigrated to the United States from Frankfort, Germany.  Bob was a proud soldier of the United States Navy.  He was an active member of the American Legion Post 239 in Lawrenceburg.  Bob was a 4th degree and previous Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus also of Lawrenceburg.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a master’s degree in Business Administration from Xavier University.  Bob was a local businessowner and a Certified Public Accountant with Robert Sonntag Accountancy Corporation, for over 30 years. He was also on the executive board of Dearborn Savings & Loan from 1974 – 2009 and became Chairman of the Board in 1996.  He loved his Xavier Musketeers, had season tickets to their basketball games, and followed them religiously. Bob also had season tickets for his other Cincinnati favorites, including the Reds and the Bengals and even attended Super Bowl XVI in 1982 when the Bengals played the 49ers in Detroit.  In his free time, Bob loved to coach, golf, play basketball and softball with his family, friends, players and teammates.

Bob will be greatly missed by his wife, Diana, whom he married in 1988 and after 32 years of marriage was still the light of his life. He also leaves behind eight children whom he adored,  Robert (Tamzen) of Gettysburg, Pamela (Hassel) Breshears of Aurora, Steven (Jane) of Indianapolis, Julie (Mike) Douglas of Cincinnati, Christine (Mike) Upton of Aurora, Traci (Andrew) Jansen of W. Harrison, Scott (Abigail) McAdams of Greendale, Jodi Lovell of Independence; grandchildren Angela and Sean Sonntag, Joshua, Brianna, and Brett Upton, Stephanie Curtis, Katelyn Killgore, Laura Campana, Allison Sonntag, Morgan and Andrew Douglas, Luke, Logan, David, and Tug Jansen, Travis and Alyssa McAdams, Natalie and Kaylin Lovell; and great grandchildren Jadalyn Eakins, Nathan Sonntag, Alexandra and Ezra Curtis, Emilia Campana, and Claire Upton. Bob is preceded in death by his parents Anna & Richard Sonntag and brother Richard Sonntag.

Visitation will be held at Andres-Wuestefeld Funeral Home on Saturday, June 13 from 10:00am – 11:30am; rosary will begin at 10:00am. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:00pm at St. Joseph’s Church of All Saints Parish with burial immediately following at St. John’s. To keep everyone safe & healthy, and to comply with Indiana’s COVID-19 guidelines, a maximum of 100 people will be allowed in the funeral home at one time. Funeral home staff will be assisting with this so that everyone has a chance to pay their respects in a safe and reverent manner. It is recommended to wear masks and maintain social distancing throughout the day. In addition, only 100 people will be able to attend the funeral mass. People wishing to only attend the graveside service can do so by practicing social distancing or by remaining in their car. Unfortunately, due to statewide guidelines the church will be unable to offer a meal after the graveside service.
