Rita Faye Thompson-70 of Greensburg

Rita Faye Thompson, 70, of Greensburg, passed away at 8:59 p.m. on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 surrounded by her family at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born on June 25, 1953 in Shelbyville the daughter of Fredrick Melvin Schofner and Joann (Smith) Martin. She was raised in Shelbyville and graduated from Morton Memorial High School in 1972. She was employed by the City of Greensburg as a Crossing Guard at the elementary school for several years and starting the first food bank in Decatur County. Rita enjoyed spending time with her family, her grandkids and “being on the go”. She married Nathan Hale Thompson, III on December 6, 1975 in Shelbyville. He preceded her in death on November 10, 2004. Survivors include her companion of 34 years, Darren Mozingo of Greensburg; her daughter, Dana (Ty) Carr of Greensburg; her sons, Nicholas (Brad) Thompson Messer of Rushville and Russell (Britany Campbell) Mozingo of Greensburg; her half-brother, Larry (Patty) Schofner of Greensburg; 7 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Deborah K. Meadows. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home with Pastor Matt Metz officiating. Cremation to follow the service. A time of visitation will be held on Monday, July 17, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
