Richard C. “Dick” Martin, age 78 of West Harrison, Indiana, passed away peacefully Friday, May 31, 2024, at his home. Born December 9, 1945, in Cincinnati, Ohio, he is the son of Thomas and Anna (Nee: Urk) Martin. He married Phyllis Kinker on November 12, 1966, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Enochsburg, Indiana.
At an early age, the family moved to Morris, Indiana. Upon graduating from Batesville High School, with the class of 63, he made his way to Purdue University. After a few years, Richard moved back to Batesville, Indiana, to start a career as Vice-president and Chief Lending Officer at Batesville State Bank. Family and Friendship were important to him. As a long-standing member of the St. Anthony Men’s Choir, he contributed to the Christmas Album.
In 1987, Richard bought 230 acres near West Harrison, Indiana, and constructed an 18-hole golf course called Grand Oak Golf Club. Richard was President of Grand Oak which opened in 1989. He enjoyed 35 successful years at Grand Oak
He is survived by his wife Phyllis of West Harrison; daughter Dr. Kimberly (Mike) Kick M.D. of Batesville, Indiana; son Mark Martin of Harrison, Ohio; grandchildren Ben Kick of Navarre, Florida and Anna Kick of Indianapolis, Indiana; brother Gerald Martin of Batesville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Thomas Martin.
In accordance with Dick’s wishes, cremation was chosen by the family and there will be no services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Margaret Mary Health Foundation Oncology Center or to the Margaret Mary Health Foundation Hospice.
