BATESVILLE, IN — Four generations of the Rippe family plus local and state leaders and a representative for one of Indiana’s U.S. Senators participated in the ribbon-cutting at Depot Square Flats apartments in downtown Batesville Wednesday afternoon.
The ribbon-cutting was in addition to an open house at the new complex.
The 158-year-old Romweber Furniture Complex underwent a $12 million restoration, which converted the former factory into a three-story, 54-unit apartment complex.
Before the ceremony, developer Bruce Rippe gave remarks detailing the project, which culminated with Thursday’s event.
“Planning for Depot Square started six years ago. There were many challenges along the way to meet the National Park Service standards, parking requirements, and tax law changes,” said Rippe. “This is the first market-rate apartment historic restoration project between
Cincinnati and Indianapolis and maybe one of the only ones in Cincy or Indy with an attached parking garage.”
The complex has 28 one-bedroom apartments, 24 two-bedroom apartments, and two studio apartments. Seventy-eight percent of the units have been leased.
Tours of the studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments were conducted during the open house.
Depot Square Flats is located at 315 East Pearl Street in downtown Batesville.
