BATESVILLE – The number of Indiana pigs testing positive for PED has declined, new reports show.
The USDA says 672 tests were conducted and only 53 tested positive for PED during the week ending September 5. Compare that to 204 positive cases reported in April.
Some industry officials express concern that the cases could increase during the fall and winter months.
The virus was detected in more than that half of all Indiana counties this spring and impacted farmers in nearly 30 states.
PED is a flu-like illness that can prove fatal for new born piglets.
