(Southeastern IN) – This is the 24th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
U.S. Army Col. Canfield “Buddy” Boone, a member of the Milan High School Class of 1966, was among those killed when a hijacked plane slammed into the Pentagon in Washington, DC.
A memorial to Boone is in Daren Baker Park in Milan (pictured).
Meanwhile, Southeastern Indiana will mark occasion in various ways, including the Sunman Fire Department’s annual Remembrance Walk starting at 6 tonight.
Firefighters will walk 3.43 miles in full turnout gear to honor the 343 firefighters who lost their lives at the World Trade Center in New York City on September 11, 2001, as well as others who perished that day.
The walk is open to the public.
If you want to participate, you’re asked to meet at the Sunman Firehouse at 5:30 p.m.
The Overpass Patriots return to the Moscow Road Bridge over I-74 in Decatur County at 6:00 tonight at 6.
Current City of Greensburg Board of Works member Robin Meyer started the custom of waving Old Glory on the overpass nine years ago but he did it by himself.
Several years later, others started joining Meyer, and the group eventually became known as the Overpass Patriots.
They have gathered since then to waive the Stars and Stripes on the bridge on Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and other patriotic dates.
Meyer says anyone is welcome to bring a flag and join in.
