Raymond Effing, 79, of Batesville passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2024 at Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born on April 14, 1945 in Hamburg, Indiana as the son of John and Loretta (Shrank) Effing.
Ray, a proud Vietnam War veteran, served in the US Army. After his time in the military, he worked many years at Hillenbrand’s, where he took great pride in his role as a maintenance and landscaping worker. Ray was a member of the Tri County Coonhunter’s Association. He was passionate about muzzleloader shooting and the art of building custom muzzleloaders. He also had a deep love for woodworking and gardening. Through his work, hobbies, and passions, Ray lived a life defined by dedication and craftsmanship.
He is survived by his loving wife, Virgia (Seals); daughter, Kris Sieko; step-sons: Aaron Reynolds, Daron (Kelly) Reynolds, and David (Kris) Reynolds; grandchildren: Kathleen, Kyle, Leigh, and Nathan; sisters: Marilyn Goodpaster, Rose Mary Rudolph, and Pauline Murrie; brother, Bill Effing.
Ray was preceded in death by his son, Scott; his first wife, Bonnie; sisters: Linda Luken and Jane Magee; brothers: Harold Effing and Ron Effing.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2024 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm with Robert McCreary Jr. officiating all at Meyers Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Peppertown Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the Batesville VFW Post #3183 and Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271.
