Randy O’Dell, 70, passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2023, peacefully at his home. He was born on March 23, 1953, in Rushville, IN. He was the son of Charles and Eleanor (Ross) O’Dell.
Randy was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in St. Maurice.
He married Barbara Mauer on October 13, 1973, and she survives. Other survivors include sons, Matthew (Jennifer) O’Dell and Christopher (Sarah) O’Dell; his five grandchildren: Olivia, Nathan, Aiden, Logan, and Camden O’Dell; brother, Dennis (Audrey) O’Dell of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Randy met the love of his life, Barbara, in Florida, while she was on vacation with his aunt, who was visiting Randy’s family. It was love at first sight for Randy. Barbara, later, moved from Greensburg to Longwood, Florida. Their relationship blossomed. They were then married at Enochsburg church. After having two sons, they moved back to Indiana in 1979 to raise their family and be near Barbara’s family.
Randy loved having his grandchildren around and enjoyed going to all their sporting events when he was able to. Fishing was his favorite sport and later his boys talked him into downsizing his cow herd and turning some of the cow pasture acreage into a pond. Many weekend days were spent down on the dock on the peddle boat and paddle boards with grandchildren, family, and friends. Randy then was able to fish anytime he wanted. He also enjoyed deer and turkey hunting. He spent a couple weeks a year visiting his brother, Dennis, in Florida, surf fishing at the ocean and eating oysters. He had many golfing stories with his golfing friends.
Randy taught his boys great work ethic, how to be a family man, and how to care for others.
