Raiders Fall Short To Rebels In Middle School Basketball

Grade 7-Southwestern 45, South Ripley 24
The visiting Raiders battled after being shutdown in the first quarter, but couldn’t generate enough offense or rebounds in a 45-24 loss to the Rebels. Zach Gentile lead SR with 14 points with Ryan Miller adding 6, Dalton Smith 2, and one point each from Luke Cranfill and Nick Schwarte.

Grade 8-Soutwestern 53, SR 52
Southwestern’ Foster Mefford hit a contested layup at the buzzer to give the host Rebels a 53-52 win. Bryce Franklin hit a spinning layup to break a 48-48 tie with under a minute to play, and Cody Samples added 2 free throws, but it wasn’t enough as the Rebels were able to escape with the heartbreaking victory. Lane Sparks paced the Raiders with 23 points, Franklin finished with 11, Samples scored all 9 of his points from the foul line, Jacob Jines hit a three pointer, and Colby Bush, Dillon Binion, and Brady Linkel all added two point buckets.

The seventh graders drop to 3-8 on the season, and the eighth graders fall to 9-2, snapping a 9 game winning streak. Both teams are back in action Tuesday, hosting the Hauser Jets, 6:00 tip.
