(Greensburg, IN) – The Decatur County Community Foundation (DCCF) says just over $100,000 remains in match money for donors interested in contributing to the new pool.
The project stands at $3,744,429.84 of its $4.5 million goal.
Since offering the match opportunity for donations, large corporate gifts have come from The Napoleon State Bank, the Alma Taylor Foundation, Elwood Staffing, Milestone, LTD, and O’Mara Foods, among others.
Private donations have come from many people who have a personal tie to the former Allen Memorial Pool, including donors such as Al Knecht, who gave in memory of his wife, Ruth, and in honor of his five adult children.
“When they made the decision to build the original pool back in 1959, I knew it would be a good thing for my family,” Knecht said. “Ruth took our five kids to that pool all summer long. It gave them something to do. It was wonderful.”
The match from the Community Foundation remains available through February 28. Any corporate or private donation will be matched dollar-for-dollar to bring the project closer to meeting its goal.
The new 9,000 square foot facility resembles the footprint of the former pool. It will include a zero entry for accessibility, a splash pad, a fuor-flume slide, and a family slide for multiple users to ride together.
A completion date of summer 2026 is weather-dependent. Crews from Blue Escapes Pools are currently on site and making progress.
The Decatur County Community Foundation was the first major donor to the project.
Since DCCF’s commitment, the Decatur County Redevelopment Commission and the City of Greensburg (through a lease with Decatur County Solid Waste Management) jumped on board as major supporters of the project.
The community match was made available to encourage general public support of the project.
