Buried behind the headlines of a wrestling regional, girls swim sectional and girls basketball semifinals Saturday was a pretty darn intriguing boys varsity hoops game between Greensburg and Jac-Cen-Del.  The host Pirates held on to beat the Eagles 69-65.

The two teams were not bashful getting up and down the floor.  The Pirates led 18-16 at the end of the first quarter and 31-29 at halftime.

Both teams converted 43 percent of their shots during the first 16 minutes.  The Pirates had more success from deep making 5-of-12 while the Eagles were a sold 8-of-10 at the line.

In the second half, Greensburg went on an incredible hot streak making 11 consecutive shots spanning most of the third quarter and the early part of the fourth.

At one point, following Colin Comer’s third dunk of the game, the Pirates held a 13-point advantage. But Jac continued to fight and worked its way back to within two.  The Bucs, however, refused to surrendered the lead and went on to win by four.

Comer finished with a game-high 26 points (7 rebounds).  Also for Greensburg, Brenden Stanley scored 17 (9 rebounds), Dakota Walters put in 12 (4 assists) and Ki Dyer had 11 (7 assists).

For the Eagles, Caleb Simon turned in 22 points, Wyatt Day netted 21 and Devin Grieshop scored a dozen.

At the end of the afternoon, both Greensburg and Jac-Cen-Del were even on rebounds and turnovers.  The Pirates, however, made a few more shots hitting 27 of 48 for 58 percent.  The Eagles connected on 23 of 52 for 44 percent.

In the JV game, Greensburg won 58-35.  Bradley Lutz put up 20 points for the victors and teammate Jack McKinsey followed with 16.  For the Osgood reserves, Brady Comer and Gavin Groth scored nine and seven respectively.

We thank Greensburg AD Stacy Meyer and staff for the accommodations and hospitality.  We thank coach Meyer and Jac-Cen-Del coach Clint Bohman for their information and time in our pregame.
