Pedestrian killed near southern Indiana casino

Florence, In. — Indiana State Police say around 11:10 pm a pedestrian was struck and killed near the Belterra Casino on New Year’s Eve.

Reports indicate a car driven by Patricia Villines, age 62, of Warsaw, Kentucky, was traveling eastbound on State Road 156 in front of the Belterra Casino.  Four people were attempting to walk across State Road 156 to an overflow parking lot across the highway from the casino.  One of those individuals, Robert V. Loughry, age 47, Gahanna, Ohio was struck by the vehicle while attempting to cross the roadway.

Loughry was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Switzerland County Coroner’s Office.

Toxicology results are pending on Villines and Loughry.

The investigation is ongoing.

The  Indiana State Police were assisted by the Switzerland County Sheriff’s Department, Switzerland County EMS, Switzerland County Coroner’s Office, Belterra Casino Security Department, and the Pleasant Township Fire Department.
