(Greensburg, IN) – An estimated 30 people gathered Wednesday evening on the Moscow Road Bridge over I-74 to wave American flags on Patriot Day to mark the 23rd anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Current City of Greensburg Board of Works member Robin Meyer started the custom of waving Old Glory on the overpass nine years ago but he did it by himself.

Several years later, others started joining Meyer, and the group eventually became known as the Overpass Patriots.

They have gathered since then to waive the Stars and Stripes on the bridge on Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and other patriotic dates.

Also part of Wednesday night’s event was a 1929 Dodge fire truck, which was the second motorized vehicle in the Greensburg Fire Department’s rolling stock.

The group will be back on the overpass on Veterans Day on Monday, November 11.
