Opal M. LaBolt, 90, of the Hopewell Community passed away at 3:50 p.m., Friday, November 3, 2023 at the Ascension St. Vincent Jennings Hospital in North Vernon. She was born near Osgood on September 19, 1933, the daughter of Alvin Dorsch and Vernie Hull Hughes. She was married to Warren LaBolt on March 28 1954 and he preceded her in death on November 21, 2005. Survivors include two daughters Mona (Keith) Lamb of Holton and Melinda (John) Braley of Versailles; grandchildren Jennifer Zapfe of Holton, Sheena (Darren) Speer of Holton, and Spencer (Amber) Braley of Versailles; great-grandchildren Daymon, Abrahm, and Carter Speer, and John A. Braley; one sister Mollie Toops of Osgood, and sister-in-law Janet Hughes of Osgood. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Marsha, grandson Chad Zapfe, great-grandson Dylan Zapfe, and her brothers Harold and Harry Hughes. Mrs. LaBolt was a 1951 graduate of Napoleon High School. She was a longtime employee of the Ripley County Bank, retiring in 1998, and had done part time work for the Patrons Mutual Insurance Company in Lawrenceburg. She also assisted Warren on their farm and they had received many woodland management awards as well as conservation awards for their farming efforts. Opal loved children, serving many years watching the nursery at church as well as enjoying her own grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed doing word searches. Opal was a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church for nearly 70 years. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 8 at 11a.m. at the Hopewell Baptist Church with Rev. Luke Koors officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5p.m. to 8p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 10a.m. until time of services Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be given to the church building fund or the Hopewell Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
