(Batesville, IN) – Progress is being reported in a downtown Batesville redevelopment project announced back in April.

Cosawove , formerly known as Hiviz, is a female-owned business that manufactures and delivers workwear in the U.S. and internationally, and has moved its manufacturing operations into two buildings previously owned by Baxter.

The initial plans for this project included The Sherman, its Biergarten and Bier Hall Event Factory.

However, a statement from Mayor John Irrgang indicates this part of the project are not moving ahead right now after a prospective buyer of The Sherman decided not to finalize the sale.

“The Sherman is a cornerstone of Batesville’s history, and we are very optimistic about its continued success,” Irrgang said. “We want to ensure that this iconic institution remains a vibrant part of our community.”

The Sherman’s owners say in a statement they are disappointed but remain optimistic about finding the ideal match for this development opportunity.

“We believe that this iconic hotel and restaurant has a bright future ahead, and we are excited to explore new possibilities. Focusing on the best interests for the long term future of The Sherman has been, and continues to be, our top priority,” said Peyton Hughes.

The circa-1852 venue’s owners are pursuing several options, including renewing the search for a new buyer or partnering with a restauranteur on a profit-sharing lease basis.

The hotel remains open for business.
