(Versailles, IN) – A dump truck driver had to be flown to the hospital following a crash on U.S. 50 east of Versailles late Friday morning.
The Ripley County Sheriff’s Office says the vehicle was westbound when it went off the side of the road, across all lanes and then over an embankment where it landed on its side.
That caused the driver – identified as 70-year-old Keith Seevers of Osgood – to be trapped in the vehicle.
First responders arriving on the scene noticed several utility lines and two poles down.
Firefighters extricated Seevers from the wreckage as soon as it was deemed safe by the utility company.
Seevers was taken by ambulance to Versailles State Park, where he was flown by helicopter to UC Medical Center.
Investigators say the extent of Seevers’ injuries is not known but he was alert and conscious at the scene.
Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash.
The Ripley County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Versailles Police Department, Ripley County Court Services, Ripley County Emergency Medical Services, PHI Air Medical, Ripley County Emergency Management Agency, Versailles Fire Rescue, Ripley County Communications and Affordable Todd’s Wrecker Service.
