One Dead in Semi Vs. Van Collision

(Decatur County, IN) – One person was killed in a head-on crash involving a semi and a van on State Road 46 at County Road 200 South in Clay Township just before Noon Thursday.

The Decatur County Sheriff’s Office says a van driven by 72-year-old Marcus Anthony Yano of Columbus and the semi, which was operated by 23-year-old Manav Rai from Newark, Delaware,  were in a field on the south side of 46 when deputies arrived around 11:42 a.m.

Yano was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing, but deputies say it appears the van was eastbound on 46 when the westbound semi went left of center and struck the van head-on.

State Road 46 was closed for around three and a-half hours for the investigation and clearing of the wreckage.

Deputies received assistance from Decatur County Communications; the Burney Volunteer Fire Department; Greensburg Fire Department; Decatur County EMS; the Decatur County Coroner’s Office; the St. Paul Town Marshal’s Office, and Indiana State Police.
