One Arrested in Madison Murder

(Madison, IN) _ A woman is dead in Madison, stabbed early Friday morning, police say by her girlfriend who met the police with blood on her arms and a knife in her hand.

That happened at an apartment in the Presidential neighborhood about 2:30 a.m.

Once Madison Police arrived they could hear screaming and crying. An officer ordered anyone who could hear him to come down the stairwell, hands up. Tori Dennison, 26, complied. She had blood on her clothes and arms and a knife in her hand. She dropped the knife and officers cuffed her.

Inside the apartment was Casey Hilt. Officers say she was found already dead on a bed.

Dennison told officers she had been drinking beer and was off of her anti-depression medication.

Dennsion’s mother and two other people were in the apartment and ran into a room and closed the door once they realized that a prolonged argument between the two had turned violent and that Dennison was stabbing her girlfriend.

Dennison is charged with murder, according to police. She is also charged with three counts of attempted murder and is being held in the Jefferson County Jail.

“This is a tragic event for our community, and our hearts are with the victim’s family and loved ones. Thanks to the swift and coordinated work of our officers and investigators, we were able to quickly apprehend the suspect. We are committed to conducting a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served,” said Madison Police Chief Shawn Scudder.
