Onalee R. Armand, 84, Westport

Onalee R. Armand, 84, of Westport, passed away at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at her residence. She was born on November 12, 1939 in Dupont, Indiana the daughter of Willard and Myrtle (Young) Read. She was born and raised in Dupont and had resided in Westport since 1961. She was a 1957 graduate of Dupont High School and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Ball State in 1960 and her Master of Education from Indiana University in Bloomington in 1970. She taught school at Saluda in Jefferson County and Jackson and Sandcreek Township in Decatur County. She later left the teaching profession to join her husband on their family farm. She was very involved with the Decatur County Porkettes and Psi Iota Xi of Westport. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and quilting. Onalee married George Armand on June 10, 1961 in Seymour, Indiana and he survives. Other survivors include her sons, V. Albert (Diane) Armand of Westport and Bradley (Gretchen) Armand of North Vernon; her 5 grandchildren, Michelle (Kevin) Doyle of Marion, R. Lucas (Haley) Armand of Westport, Elise Armand of Salt Lake City, Utah, Alexandra Armand of Dallas, Texas, Will Armand of Westport and 4 great grandchildren, Kami Peck, Oliver Armand, Findley and Elijah Doyle. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Guy Read and Robert Read; sisters, Kate LaFever and Lenora Russell. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with Pastor Mike Bartlett officiating. Burial will follow at Westport Cemetery. A time of visitation will be on Friday, January 19 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Diabetes Association through the funeral home.
