Oldenburg Volleyball records win in five over Rushville

It was an exciting five-set volleyball match played Thursday at Oldenburg.  The host Twisters won a back-and-forth battle 3-2 over Rushville: 24-26, 25-15, 17-25, 28-26 and 15-10.

“Oldenburg Academy wrapped up their season’s last home match with an exciting night of volleyball defeating Rushville in five sets,” said Twister head coach Debbie Gregg. “OA now stands at 14-12 this season, which is a huge improvement over last year’s record. The Lady Twisters had an impressive, close match against Rushville showing their tenacity to pull through in order to protect their home court for the seniors last match at OA.  We have had a total team effort from our Twisters all season!”

Gregg reported Elizabeth Gigrich, senior libero, had 45 digs for the night and pushed her career digs record at OA even higher to 1330. Caroline Jansing, stepped up with a career-high 19 kills in addition to 23 digs and 2 aces.

Edited Rushville coach Nan Scanlan noted a record breaking performance by one of her seniors.

“It was a great match to watch as both teams battled back and forth,” said Scanlan.  “The girls played really hard and did an outstanding job. Olivia Yager had 21 kills which broke the school record for the number of kills in a match. The previous record of 17 was held by Shelby Justice (2007) and Kendra Hamilton (2020).”

“Olivia just brings something special every time she steps onto the court,” added Scanlan. “She has taken this young team under her wings and has guided and nutured them throughout this season. Olivia is an outstanding student athlete and, even more important, she is an outstanding young lady.”
