Oldenburg, In. — More than 100 people witnessed the beginning of a new era for the Oldenburg Academy, the groundbreaking for the 10,000 square foot “Hillenbrand Family Feldhaus.” President Diane Laake says, “This facility will allow us to host larger schools for home games and conduct simultaneous practices. The time savings will allow students more time to study or spend time with family.”
The new facility will be built east of the auditorium on land donated to the academy by the Sisters of St. Francis.
The facility will seat about 1,000 and house a full gymnasium, activities center and a full-sized kitchen. The locker rooms will be on the north side of the facility to allow football players to enter directly from the playing field.
The building was designed by Cincinnati-based SHP Leading Design and will be constructed by Batesville-based Bruns-Gutzwiller, Inc. The project is expected to cost about $3 million. The Friendship State Bank is the financial partner of the academy.
School officials report more than 200 students are involved in the 19 different sports offer at the academy.
