Ripley/Dearborn counties, IN — The National Weather Service confirms two tornadoes touched down in the area Friday night. EF-1 tornado damage occurred along East Prattsburg Road near Milan, where several trees were knocked down. Additional damage was spotted further southeast on Prattsburg where additional trees were toppled and a carport was destroyed.
A home on Prattsburg Road sustained minor damage, including gutters and shingles that blew off the house. A number of hardwood trees snapped in a nearby wooded area. The tornado moved into the Town of Milan and produced sporadic damage, mostly on Josephine, Ellsworth, and West Ellis streets, where large trees were knocked down and siding was removed from a one-story home. Winds in Milan were estimated at 80 mph or EF-0.
The twister strengthened as it moved along Woolery and Rose streets where the most significant damage was observed. That’s where a number of trees either snapped or were knocked down. A tree fell on a home on County Road 750-East, and a garage was destroyed at that home. Wind damage in the area was consistent with winds up to 110 mph or reaching EF-1 intensity. The tornado weakened but not before blowing a tree onto a house on East 200 North.
Meanwhile, an EF-1 tornado began in western Dearborn County in the Moores Hill area behind Longbranch Road, where some trees were downed. The most significant damage was on Longbranch, where two houses were damaged. Half of a metal roof was lifted and thrown in several directions, and insulation splattered on the house and parked vehicles. Trees on both properties were knocked down or blown over in several directions.
The weather service says the tornado is believed to have gone into another wooded area southeast of Longbranch Road because no further damage was spotted on any nearby roads. That EF-1 twister produced damage with maximum wind speeds of 95 mph.
Despite all of the damage, there were no injuries reported from either tornado.
