North Vernon Man Arrested for Murder

(Jennings County, IN) – A North Vernon man was arrested Sunday night on murder and other charges following the shooting death of his father.

Indiana State Police say 30-year-old Conner Montgomery is charged in the killing of 53-year-old Robert “Matthew” Montgomery.

Troopers say the incident happened in southern Jennings County shortly after 10:00 pm.

ISP says the preliminary investigation indicates that Conner Montgomery was at the residence with an adult female and two children when an altercation occurred in which he allegedly pointed a gun at her and fired it inside of the home. Authorities say he also shot at her vehicle when she tried to leave.

Robert Montgomery arrived at the scene and was allegedly shot by his son outside the home.

Conner Montgomery faces charges including Murder, Criminal Confinement with a Deadly Weapon, Criminal Recklessness with a Deadly Weapon, Domestic Battery in the presence of minors, Neglect of a Dependent, and Pointing a Firearm.

He’s being held in the Jennings County Jail.

Detectives  Vincent Scott with the Indiana State Police Versailles Post, and Ian McPherson with the Jennings County Sheriff’s Office, are leading the investigation with the assistance of the North Vernon Police Department, Jennings County Coroner’s Office, and Jennings County Prosecutor’s Office.
