North Decatur Girls Varsity Basketball

The Lady Chargers traveled on Tuesday to take on EIAC conference member Franklin County to open up the 2022-2023 campaign.

The Lady Chargers got off to a slow start as hot shooting from the Lady Wildcats fueled a 9-0 run to open the game. #22, Nicole Meers got on the board early and often finished with 29 points. Despite the early struggles, North found their pace to cut the Wildcat lead to 6 at the 1st quarter break, 19-13.

The North offense came alive with twenty (20) 2nd quarter points. Charger senior Madelyn Bohman dropped in 9 points in the quarter on way to her team-high 18 points for the game, while junior Ella Kunz added 4 to the score column. The Chargers led at the intermission 33-30.

The second half saw each team exchange tough possessions. Foul trouble plagued both teams throughout the contest. North led by as many as 5 in the third period, but also found themselves down as many as 11 midways through the 4th quarter. Sophomore, Kelsey Haley knocked down two clutch three-pointers to keep things close down the stretch. Sydney Rohls contributed nicely off the bench with 6 points as well.

Ultimately, poor free throw shooting doomed the Lady Chargers where they connected on just 12/27 from the line. Nicole Meers’ career day shooting of 13/17 FG attempts was too much to overcome as the Wildcats inched out a 61-57 score.

North Decatur (0-1) will be in action on Saturday in the South Dearborn Tournament against Clarksville starting at 12:30. The first game is to be played at the South Dearborn Middle School.
