Batesville, IN— The City of Batesville presented a $2,800 check to Margaret Mary Health (MMH) on Monday, December 2.
The funds were raised during No-Shave November, a month-long initiative that encouraged male City employees to forego shaving in order to raise awareness of the MMH wig program for cancer patients.
The program was initially launched by the Batesville police and fire departments who waived their strict policies toward shaving in order to raise the funds. Additional departments expressed interest in participating in the program which led to a city-wide initiative.
“Whether it was a police officer, water or street department employee, if you saw them with facial hair last month then they made a donation to this special program,” said Mayor Mike Bettice. “Cancer has impacted probably every family in our community in one form or another and this is one small way we were able to support Margaret Mary’s efforts.”
Employees who participated in the program donated the money they typically spend on shaving to the wig program in November. The public also donated to the cause.
“We are so grateful to everyone who raised funds for our cancer services through No-Shave November. Not only did City employees raise money for our wig program, they also raised awareness. We are truly fortunate to be a part of a community that bands together to support one another,” said Tim Putnam, President and CEO of Margaret Mary Health.
