(Southeastern IN) – Major party candidates for local offices – except judicial – have until Noon on Friday, February 6 to file a declaration of candidacy with the county election board for the May 5, 2026 primary election.
The declaration must be accompanied by a CAN-12 Statement of Economic Interests. (IC 3-8-2-4; IC 3-8-2-6) STATE FORMS: CAN-2 (Declaration of Candidacy for Primary Nomination in 2026; CAN-12 (Statement of Economic Interests for Local and School Board Offices) Also, if the office makes over $5,000 per year, STATE FORM CFA-1.
Next Friday at Noon is also the deadline to file a declaration of candidacy with a county election board for election as a major party state convention delegate in the 2026 primary.

The deadline is also Noon for someone to file a declaration of candidacy with a county election for election as a Democratic Party precinct committeeman in the 2026 primary. (NOTE: the CAN-12 statement of economic interests does not need to be filed for party offices; Republican precinct committeeman will be on the 2028 primary election ballot.) Noon Indianapolis time is the deadline for a major party candidate for U.S. Representative, state legislative office, judicial office or prosecuting attorney to file a declaration of candidacy with the Indiana Election Division for the 2026 primary election.
A declaration for state legislative office or judicial office, must be accompanied by a copy of the statement of economic interest, file stamped by the office required to receive the statement of economic interests, or a receipt or photocopy of a receipt showing that the statement has been filed. Friday, February 13 at Noon is the deadline to withdraw a declaration of candidacy for the primary.
