
(Batesville, IN) – A Versailles family welcomed the first baby born at Margaret Mary Health in 2026 on New Year’s Day.
James Montgomery Furnish was born at 6:40 p.m. Jan. 1 to Stephanie and Matthew Furnish. He weighed 6 pounds, 12 ounces and measured 19 inches long.
Stephanie Furnish went into labor about three weeks early and delivered James by cesarean section with the assistance of Dr. Kelley Fitzpatrick. Hospital officials said both mother and baby are doing well.
James is expected to be welcomed home by three older brothers — Xavier, Eli and Luke.
Margaret Mary Health, a not-for-profit critical access hospital in Batesville, serves Ripley, Franklin and surrounding counties. The hospital employs nearly 800 people and provides inpatient and outpatient care, including oncology, rehabilitation, orthopedic services and primary care clinics in nearby communities.
Hospital staff congratulated the Furnish family on the birth of their son, the first baby delivered at the facility in the new year.
