(Batesville, IN) – The Southeastern Indiana YMCA is bringing a new chapter this summer to its Camp Alon Summer Day Camp, which will place all campers and staff together at one location on the Y’s main campus.

Organization officials say by bringing everyone together, Camp Alon is creating an even stronger sense of community.

“Camp Alon has always been about connection—connecting kids to nature, to each other, and to their own potential,” said McKenzie Callahan, YMCA Learning Center Childcare Director. “With everyone together in one place, we’re able to build an even more meaningful and memorable experience for every child.”

In the coming weeks, visitors to the YMCA will begin to see this vision come to life.

A newly designed outdoor camp space is being developed near the Outdoor Community Sports Complex, featuring individual outdoor “camp classrooms” arranged in a half-circle around a central gathering space (pictured).

While the setting is new, the Y says everything families love about Camp Alon remains at the heart of the experience. Campers will spend their days exploring the outdoors, connecting with nature, and discovering new ways to grow, play, and thrive under the summer sun.

In addition, campers will have access to the Y’s indoor spaces for activities such as swimming, or during inclement weather.

The 2026 camp season kicks off May 26 with “Return to the Wild” Week, an adventure-filled start where campers will reconnect with nature through hands-on exploration, teamwork challenges, and creative outdoor learning.

Throughout the summer, weekly themes will “continue to spark imagination, curiosity, and fun,” the Y says in a statement.

Camp offerings include:

  • Field Trips, including Columbus Commons Playground, Clifty Falls State Park, Mayberry West Bison Farm, Miami Whitewater, and many more.
  • Creative Weekly Themes.
  • Outdoor Survival Skills.
  • Galaxy Exploration.
  • Splash-tastic Water Games.
  • Building Masterpieces,

Camp Alon is open to children entering Grade 1 through age 12, and registration is now open. With flexible scheduling, families can choose one week, a few favorites, or dive into all 11 weeks.

Spaces fill quickly, and families are encouraged to register early to secure their child’s spot for this summer.
