(Greensburg, IN) – The Economic Development Corporation of Greensburg/Decatur County (EDCGDC) heard a presentation from Campbell Ricci with Accelerate Indiana Municipalities (AIM) about the ramifications of Senate Enrolled Act 1 at the agency’s annual meeting Thursday at Greensburg City Hall.

Ricci, who is AIM’s Policy and Finance Resources Director, has gone around the state since the property tax reform bill became law and spoken to local government officials.

“Most of them are just confused and wanting clarification on how things are going to work. They know there’s some sort of a property tax cut coming to their normal operations,” Ricci said. “A lot of them are still trying to wrap their heads around it. They want information on what it looks like. There’s nervousness, there’s trepidation. I wouldn’t say panic, but they really want education more than anything else.”

Ricci has been offering guidance to local governments guidance on how to proceed.

“It’s important as ever to do long-term financial planning. To have a plan, get together with the other units of your county and start planning for what your local income tax structure is going to look like when the new on goes into effect,” he added. “I say, ‘plan, don’t panic.'”

AIM was formerly known as the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns.

The EDC also elected its slate of officers for the coming year. They are President Chris Bierhaus; Brett Abplanalp is Vice President; Dan Anderson will serve as Treasurer, and Chris Bower was elected Secretary.

EDCGDC Executive Director Bryan Robbins gave an update that primarily concentrated on the ongoing need to diversify Decatur County’s economy.
