Mrs. Joy P. (Pavy) Briggs

Mrs. Joy P. (Pavy) Briggs, age 89, of Vevay, Indiana, went to be with her Lord and Savior at 7:04 p.m., Thursday, June 27, 2024, at The Waters of Clifty Falls in Madison, Indiana. Joy entered this earthly life on June 26, 1935 in Fairview, Indiana, the loving daughter of the late, Wilbur Frederick and Edith (Orem) Pavy. She was a 1953 graduate of Vevay High School and served as class president. Joy graduated with a bachelors degree in secondary education from Olivet Nazarene College in Bourbonnais, Illinois. She later received her masters degree in secondary education from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. On June 6, 1964, Joy was united in marriage to Kendrick Fay Briggs, Sr. at the Fairview United Methodist Church in Fairview, Indiana. Joy and Ken shared 47 years of marriage together until his passing on June 4, 2011. Joy was a former teacher for the Switzerland County School Corporation where she taught English and literature, as well as, social studies for 36 years. She was also a former teacher for Rising Sun School Corporation for three years. Joy retired in 1999 after 39 dedicated years to providing education to this community. She was a profound teacher and a beacon of light and helped shape many futures throughout her career. Whether that was teaching others about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ or in the classroom, she brought many lifelong lessons to everyone’s lives along the way. She was a large part of everyone’s childhoods and creating a positive impact on their lives. She was a member of the Julia L. Dumont Club and served as local president of the Retired Teacher’s Association. Joy was a faithful member of the Fairview United Methodist Church and was also a member of the United Methodist Women in Faith. She also served as president of the East Enterprise Homemakers Club and was very active in the Vevay High School alumni. Joy was a former board member for the Community Foundation of Switzerland County from 2007-2012 and served as secretary of the board for two years. In her spare-time, Joy enjoyed reading and playing with her great-grandchildren. Joy will be deeply missed by her family and her community but we will all rejoice that she is in the arms of Jesus and with her loved ones again.

Joy will be lovingly remembered by her step-son, Kendrick Fay Briggs, Jr. of Vevay, IN; her step-grandson, Brad Briggs and his wife, Amanda of Vevay, IN; her step-great-grandchildren, Michael Allen Briggs and Allison Faye Briggs; her sisters-in-law, Betty Pavy of Lawrenceburg, TN and Linda Pavy of East Enterprise, IN and her several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father, Wilbur Frederick Pavy; her mother, Edith O. (Orem) Pavy; her husband, Kendrick Fay Briggs, Sr.; her step-daughter-in-law, Brenda Ann Briggs; her brothers, Halstead, Ray, Marvin, Rev. Doyle “Jack”, Paul, Wilfred “Willie”, Kenneth “Bucky” and Donald “Donnie” Pavy and her sisters, Helen Cleeter and LeOra Rebecca Pavy.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., Monday, July 1, 2024, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 2, 2024, by Rev. Mike Jones, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.
