Mrs. Emma May (Newton) Carder

Mrs. Emma May (Newton) Carder, age 81, of Indianapolis, Indiana, entered this life on July 15, 1944 in Bardstown, Kentucky. Emma was the daughter to the late Thomas Raymond and Katherine Agnes (Waldridge) Newton. She was raised in O’Bannon and Pewee Valley, Kentucky, where she attended the St. Aloysius Catholic School in Pewee Valley, Kentucky. Emma was united in marriage on December 6, 1960 to Robert E. Carder at the Campbellsburg Baptist Church in Campbellsburg, Kentucky. This union was blessed with six daughters, Darlene, Marlene, Debby, Cindy, Rhonda and Bobbie. Emma was a devoted, loving, and wonderful mother and homemaker. She enjoyed traveling, drawing and collecting dolls and trinkets. Emma passed away at 4:44 a.m., Sunday, January 11, 2026, at the Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Emma will be missed by her husband, Robert E. Carder of Indianapolis, Indiana; her daughters, Darlene Arnold and her husband, Robert of Indianapolis, IN, Marlene Templeton and her husband, Steve of Carmel, IN, Debby Eagen and her husband, Mike of Avon, IN, Cindy Sparks of Fort Myers, FL, Rhonda Jeffery of Anderson, IN and Bobbie Hopson and her husband, Tony of Indianapolis, IN; her 14 grandchildren and her 29 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Raymond Newton, died November 5, 1975; her mother, Katherine Agnes (Waldridge) Newton, died November 28, 1989; her half-brother, George Elmer Waldridge, died August 24, 1999 and her sons-in-law, Tim Sparks and Gary Jeffery.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m., Monday, January 19, 2026, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Monday, January 19, 2026, by Rev. Mike Jones at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.
