Mrs. Christy Lea Hunger Swango, age 68, of Holton, Indiana entered this life on July 13, 1955, in Milan, Indiana. She was the loving daughter of Ernest Lee and Patricia Kaye Ralston Hunger. She resided all of her life in Ripley County and was a 1973 graduate of South Ripley High School where she was a member of the Honor Society, Sunshine Society, Journalism, band and a 10 year 4-H member. She then attended Indiana State University and received her degree in 1977 in Social Work. On August 12, 1978, Christy was united in marriage to Michael Ray Swango at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Olean. This happy union of 45 years was blessed with a daughter, Jessica and a son, Paul. She was employed as a social worker with the Indiana Division of Family and Children serving offices at Muscatatuck State Hospital, Madison State Hospital and The Indiana Government Center in Indianapolis. She retired after 34 years of dedicated service to adults with disabilities. Her care and sincere love to help those in need was evident by her life’s work and compassion. After retirement she soon found herself involved in Lifetime Resources in Dillsboro for the next four years, still working with adults with compassion and her sincere care. She was a faithful member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church at Olean where she served with the WELCA and enjoyed quilting blankets. She had served as a project leader with the Ripley County 4-H Entomology program. She found joy in helping out many 4-H youth learn about entomology. Her greatest love in life was her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a loving wife, devoted mom, mamaw, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. Christy died on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at 2:12 a.m. at the Norton King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison, Indiana.

Christy will be missed by her loving husband of 45 years, Michael Ray Swango of Holton, Indiana; her loving daughter, Jessica and her fiancee, Jason of Liberty Township, Ohio; her loving son, Paul and his wife, Nichole of Rising Sun, Indiana; her adoring grandchildren, Bailee, Audrey, Aaliyah, Cheyenne, and Bennett; her father, Ernest Lee Hunger of Benham, Indiana; her brother, Bob Hunger and his wife, Connie of Versailles, Indiana; her sister, Jennifer Miller and her husband, Ralph of Versailles, Indiana; her sister in laws, Brenda Strassell and her husband, Lee of Holton, Indiana, Becky Walston of Osgood, Indiana; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her mother, Patricia Kaye Ralston Hunger, died September 11, 2023, and her brother, Tommy Hunger, died October 28, 1969.

Memorial services will be conducted Saturday, November 4, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., by Rev. Dr. Evangeline Anderson-Rajkumar, Pastor at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, 5869 South State Road 129 (Olean) Versailles, Indiana.
