From Heaven to Red Hog Pike came the most beautiful gift so many could have ever gotten. Mrs. Betty Leone (Hayes) Pavy was born on July 1, 1943, the only daughter to James and Olive Hayes. She was the middle child sandwiched between her older brothers, Bob and Paul, and her younger brothers, Donnie and Ronnie. She was raised in Switzerland County, Indiana, and when she was 15 years old on February 22, 1959, she married the love of her life, a boy called Bucky, in Crothersville, Indiana. She and Bucky (aka Kenneth Pavy) would have 5 boys and all with the same initials: Gary Kenneth, Gregory Keith, Glenn Kyle, Galen Kurtis, and Grant Kollyer. While she worked different jobs through the years, spending a lot of time at ballgames, and helping Bucky run a bowling alley, she was first and foremost a homemaker, devoted to her husband, and her main ambition was always raising her boys. She and Bucky stayed in rural Switzerland County until the mid-1980s when a move was made and by God’s amazing grace Betty wound up in Lawrence County, Tennessee alongside her Bucky, where they both dedicated their lives to their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, following Him in the glorious waters of baptism, and filled with the sweet Holy Ghost. Betty’s love for God was on full display in how she loved all of us. This precious Momma became Mammaw to so many. She worked hard with her life, graduated with her GED, and went on to teach several years in Christian schools. She sacrificed and served in many ways during her lifetime. She was a founding member of Sonset Fellowship located in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, where she labored faithfully as a secretary and last year was honored with the equivalent of a lifetime achievement award as a saint in the church of the living God. On February 26, 2025, she left this world, carried by the angels, and entered the glories of Heaven, no doubt welcomed by her Jesus, her Bucky, and so many others.
The best Momma ever will be missed by her sons: Gary of Vevay, Indiana; Greg (Traci) of Vevay, Indiana; Glenn (Margaret) of Vevay, Indiana; Galen (Karen) of Columbia, Tennessee; and Grant of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee.
The best Mammaw ever will be missed by twenty-something grandkids, 18 great grandkids, a few on the way, and many who affectionately know her as their Mammaw. Her love took so many in and we are never the same because of it.
She also leaves behind her brothers: Paul (Loretta) of Vevay, Indiana; and Ronnie (Betty) of East Enterprise, Indiana. Several nephews and nieces will be missing their Aunt B.
We will all miss her smile, her sweetness, her spaghetti, her sweet tea, her cherry delight, her pure heart, her sincere faith, and so much more…more than words could express. She epitomizes grace, beauty, and everything precious.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband: Kenneth (Bucky) Pavy; her parents: James and Olive (Lewis) Hayes; and her brothers: Donnie Hayes and Bob Hayes. Many other family members have also gone on before her.
For sure she has heard the words “Well done, my good and faithful servant” and while it’s not the country roads of Indiana nor the comforting residence of her home in Tennessee she is now in her eternal home and cheers you on to follow Jesus and when your adventure here is over come join her.
