Mrs. Marilyn Rayls Reed

Mrs. Marilyn (Rayls) Reed, age 74, of Bennington, Indiana, entered this life on June 23, 1948 in Madison, Indiana. She was the loving daughter of the late, Elmo and Betty Jean (Lock) Rayls. She was raised in Switzerland County and was a 1966 graduate of the Vevay High School. During high school, Marilyn met the love of her life, George Edwin Reed and they were voted FFA Sweethearts in 1964. On September 23, 1966, Marilyn and George were united in marriage at the Macedonia Baptist Church near Moorefield, Indiana. Marilyn and George shared over 56 loving years together and was blessed with two children. After high school, Marilyn was employed as a telephone operator for the Vevay Telephone Company for a few years. She was later employed as a secretary for the Switzerland County High School for several years. She also worked for the greenhouse in Fairview, Indiana, Plastic Molding Factory in East Enterprise, Indiana and for Dorman Products in Warsaw, Kentucky. Marilyn also worked for Ohio Rod Products and Marathon in Versailles, Indiana. Marilyn was a hard worker and helped on the family farm driving the tractor, cutting tobacco and bailing hay. Marilyn also helped several farmers set tobacco for several years. She was a member of the Center Square Baptist Church in Center Square, Indiana. Marilyn was very close to her family and you could always count on her to find a four leaf clover anywhere. Marilyn enjoyed gardening, canning, baking, cooking and traveling, as well as, quilting, crocheting afghans and working puzzles. Marilyn loved her family deeply and enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren. Marilyn passed away at 11:36 p.m., Sunday, October 16, 2022, at the Swiss Villa Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Vevay, Indiana.

Marilyn will be deeply missed by her husband, George Edwin Reed of Bennington, IN; her daughter, Angela “Angie” Althoff and her husband, Travis of Bennington, IN; her son, Robert “Bob” Reed and his wife, Rinda of Vevay, IN; her grandchildren, Jackie Stearns, Clay Althoff and his wife, Courtney and Blake Althoff and his fiancée, Tristin Reese; her great-grandchildren, Joanna and Grace; her brothers, Denny Rayls and his wife, Suzanne of Jacksonville, IN; her sister-in-law, Lake Rayls of Jacksonville, IN and Gary Rayls of Vevay, IN and her nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmo and Betty Jean (Lock) Rayls; her brother, Larry Gene Rayls and her niece, Kristina “Krissie” Rayls Stephan.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, October 20, 2022, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, October 21, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., by Pastor Ron Lee, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Interment will follow in the Caledonia Cemetery near Moorefield, Indiana.
