Mr. Larry Wayne Hickman

Mr. Larry Wayne Hickman, age 72, formerly of Rising Sun, Indiana, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at his winter residence in Pace, Florida. Born on April 7, 1952, in Kingsport, Tennessee, to the late Joy and Lona Hickman, he was the embodiment of humbleness, resilience, and love.

He was preceded in death by his cherished parents, his sister Geneva Sharpe, and his ex-wife Barbara Richards.

Larry is survived and will be dearly missed by his five daughters: Paula (Chris) Lowell of Greenfield, Indiana; Amy (Chris) Logsdon of Nashville, Indiana; Karen (Aaron) Cash of Pace, Florida; Amanda (Mike) Yocum and Laura Walston (Rodney Rimstidt) of Rising Sun, Indiana, and former sons-in-law Shane Walston of Rising Sun and Andy Brookbank of Greendale. He took immense pride in his grandchildren: Elise (Matthew) Durazo; Madelyn Lowell; Ben, Vada, and Cole Walston; Jalen and Hunter Brookbank; Gavin Yocum; Nathaniel, Tobias, and Wyatt Cash; and Lebanon Logsdon and Corina Sullivann.

Larry worked in various jobs throughout his life, including U.S. Shoe, Pierson-Hollowell, Fletcher Feed, and Grand Victoria Casino, but most recently, he retired as a painter, both independently and alongside his beloved brother, Sam. He also enjoyed being a driver for his Amish friends, which led him on adventures to Iowa, Missouri, and many other places, where he formed treasured friendships.

He loved the Lord with all his heart, cherished his family, and found joy in the simple things: hot coffee in the morning (and all day long), caring for his chickens-an obsession shared with his nephew, Tommy Coyne-growing vegetables, and sharing stories. He also owned a variety of animals over the years, including horses, and loved to take people on trail rides on the farm. He enjoyed going to church, fishing, playing guitar, and watching “Andy Griffith.” He had a remarkable memory and could recall vivid details from the past. He loved a good Clint Eastwood movie and never turned down a delicious meal (or any meal, really). His sense of humor was contagious, and he was known for telling jokes-both good and bad-whenever he could. His cackling laugh was unforgettable.

There aren’t enough words to describe what Larry meant to his five daughters and all who knew him. He was quick to forgive, often in ways most people can’t understand. He was the first to offer his last dollar and the last to ask for anything in return. His generosity and selflessness knew no bounds. Throughout his life, Larry’s deep faith and trust in God enabled him to weather life’s challenges with strength and grace. His wisdom, humility, and patience were an inspiration to all who knew him.

Larry was exceedingly proud of his five daughters, and we were equally proud to call him our dad. As we gather during this time of sorrowful reflection, we celebrate a man whose kindness touched countless lives. Though our hearts ache from losing such an irreplaceable soul-we find solace knowing that our Daddy now rests peacefully among those he has loved dearly before us.
