Mr. Harold Wayne Dickason

Mr. Harold Wayne Dickason, age 86, of Indianapolis, Indiana, formerly of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on August 8, 1933, at the family home in Vevay, Indiana. He was the loving son of the late, Joseph L. and Mildred I. (Newkirk) Dickason. He was raised in Vevay, Indiana where he was a 1951 graduate of the Vevay High School. In his early years of life, Harold worked for Dickason Garage in Vevay, Indiana. Harold received his degree in business in 1956 from Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. Harold was inducted into the United States Navy on March 1, 1957, in Vevay, Indiana. On October 1, 1958, Harold rose to the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade, the second commissioned officer rank in the United States Navy. Harold was honorably discharged on March 14, 1960 at the U.S. Naval Receiving Station in Long Beach, California. On September 9, 1967, in Ames, Iowa, Harold was united in marriage to Maryann Bortle. This union was blessed with two sons, James William “Bill” Dickason and Joseph Edward “Ed” Dickason. Harold and Maryann shared 52 years of marriage together until his death. Harold was employed as an electrician for AA Electric in Indianapolis, Indiana, for several years. He was also employed as an electrician for Lawrence Township School Corporation in Indianapolis, Indiana, retiring in 2004, after 25 years of service. Harold was a dual member of the Speedway Masonic Lodge No. 500 F&AM, Switzerland Masonic Lodge No. 122 F&AM, Past Patron of the Oakland Chapter No. 159 Order of Eastern Star and Bennington Order of Eastern Star Chapter No. 407. Harold was Past Master of the Oakland Masonic Lodge No. 140 F&AM and attended the VFW Post #261 both of Indianapolis, Indiana. Harold resided in Martinsville, Indiana from 1970 – 1993 and later moved back to the Indianapolis community in 1993 where he resided until his passing. Harold passed away at 5:43 p.m., Tuesday, October 1, 2019, in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Harold will be missed by his wife, Maryann (Bortle) Dickason of Indianapolis, IN; his sons, Joseph Edward “Ed” Dickason of Muncie, IN and James William “Bill” Dickason and his wife, Mary of Noblesville, IN; his grandchildren, Ginny, Xander, Max, Caid, Reese, and Holli; his brother-in-law, William Lee “Bill” Konkle of Vevay, IN and his several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph L. Dickason, died March 8, 1991 and Mildred I. (Newkirk) Dickason, died July 17, 1982; his sisters, Mary Lou Konkle, died July 1, 2011 and Roberta J. “Bert” Lamson, died May 11, 2019 and his brother-in-law, Robert Dumont “Bob” Lamson, died October 3, 2017.

Masonic and Eastern Star Services will be conducted Tuesday, October 8, 2019, at 1:00 p.m., at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Interment and full military rites will be conducted by the Honor Guard of the Vevay American Legion Post #185 and the Vevay VFW Post #5396 in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Madison, Indiana.
