Mr. George William Skirvin

Mr. George William Skirvin, age 91, of Moorefield, Indiana, entered this life on August 9, 1933 in Carroll County, Kentucky. He was the son of the late, Jacob G. “Jake” and Millie Jane (Smith) Skirvin. He was raised in Vevay, Indiana since 1937 and was a 1952 graduate of the Vevay High School. During high school, George helped Bill Cole on his farm. George was inducted into the United States Army on December 8, 1953 in Louisville, Kentucky, serving during the Korean War. He received the National Defense Service Medal and the Sharpshooter Rifle Badge. George was united in marriage on May 1, 1954 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Mildred Lucille Richardson and this union of nearly 65 years was blessed with three children. George was later transferred to the Army Reserves on December 7, 1955 at Fort Hood, Texas and was honorably discharged with the rank of Specialist 4th Class on December 1, 1961. The family resided in the Indianapolis community from 1955-1987. George was employed as an electrician for Western and Electric in Indianapolis, Indiana retiring in 1987, after 30 years of service. George and Mildred moved back to the Vevay community in 1987 where he resided until his death. George was a former member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 481of Indianapolis, Indiana and Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, Indiana. He was a lifetime member of the Vevay American Legion Post #185 and a member of the Switzerland Masonic Lodge #122 F&AM and enjoyed fishing in his spare time. George passed away at 12:11 p.m., Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at the Norton King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison, Indiana.

George is survived by his daughter, Pamela Matthews and her husband, Robert of Greenfield, IN; his sons, Lawrence W. Skirvin of Indianapolis, IN, and David Skirvin and his wife, Becky of Indianapolis, IN; his grandchildren, Stacey, Brandon, Heather, Tyler, Kyle, Alicia, Erika, and Nathaniel; his several great-grandchildren and his nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jacob G. “Jake” Skirvin; his mother, Millie Jane (Smith) Skirvin; his wife, Mildred Lucille (Richardson) Skirvin; his brothers, Harry, James Welby, Leslie, Rheuben, Halley, and John F. Skirvin; his sisters, Margaret Beach, Stella Louise Tague, and Nellie Simpson Pickard.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Masonic Services and Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 23, 2025, by Rev. Mike Jones, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043. Full military rites will be conducted at the funeral home by the Honor Guard of the Vevay American Legion Post #185 and the Vevay VFW Post #5396.

Interment will be held at a later date in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.
