(Morris, IN) – Morris volunteer firefighters successfully rescued a dog that fell through the ice on the Indian Lakes Campground pond this week.
Fire chief Randy Merkel says they received the call around 5:19 pm Monday, and responders had to make their way over snow-covered roads to the pond.
He says they took their ice water rescue sled to the middle of the pond and plucked the 60-pound male German Shepherd from the ice.
Chief Merkel says they then took the dog to a waiting Sunman Rescue 20 ambulance, where the crew dried and warmed him up.
The dog was treated by a veterinarian and returned home, and word reached his rescuers that he was already eating that night, just hours after the ordeal.
Fourteen firefighters reported to the Morris fire station, with eight heading to the scene.
There were no injuries reported.
