(Milan, IN) – Milan Intermediate/Middle School students had a “Titanic” project on their hands.
Mrs. Shawna Potts’ 6th grade class completed a project recently in which the students had to create a prototype using this question, “How can we analyze the mistakes made by the Titanic to prevent similar tragedies from happening.”
Students built models of the doomed ship and explained the mistake they fixed. Solutions included changing the hull of the ship from iron to steel, and adding more lifeboats.
The 6th graders then created a museum that included interactive exhibits where visitors could see how steep the Titanic was as it was sinking and how the passengers struggled to hold on, as well as how cold and icy the water in the Atlantic Ocean was when the ship went down in April 1912.
Each person received a ticket as they entered the museum and played the role of a passenger.
When they left, they found if they survived.
